Remedee's second year of youth programming in New Orleans is underway with the "Change We Can Create" Summer Camp at Carver High School. It's sponsored in part by New Orleans Recreation Department (NORD) and led by 2-Cent, a group of local, young media-makers who themselves use digital film as a tool for change.
The "Change We Can Create Camp" offers kids the tools necessary to visualize and create their own personal video projects. The campers have chosen to cover issues that affect their lives, and so far they range from the environment, to violence in their neighborhood, to graffiti, to even skateboarding. Through this process, they are able to manifest their own creative energies while sending a positive message to their community and the world. They also participate in workshops on acting, producing, and community activism; and learn from special guest speakers, both in person and remotely from Los Angeles using video chat and a classroom projector.
As a joint effort with 2-Cent, the "Change We Can Create Camp" continues the New Orleans programming that Remedee launched in 2008, with Reel Earth. Reel Earth used documentary films to help at-risk youth New Orleans youth connect the impact of environmental issues with the reality of their lives.
